A business trip may be within or between countries but is generally of a short duration. Within the context of international assignments, companies need to differentiate between a “business trip” and “international assignment.” Generally the distinction is made based on the length of the trip or assignment. In general, one would expect a business trip to last no more than several weeks without a reimbursed trip home. There could be a number of such trips in succession leading to a total stay of several months. An employee working in a foreign country whether for a short or long period must comply with all visa and tax requirements of that country.
