The electric currents vary among countries. Countries use either 110 volts or 220 volts with cycles of 60 or 50 hz. European countries use 220 volts and 50 cycles. North and Central American, some Caribbean and Pacific countries use 110 volts and 60 cycles. Some countries use both 110 and 220 volts. Although the 60 and 50 cycles mentioned above generally conform to 110 or 220 volts, this isn’t always true. Large appliances do not run well even with transformers if the voltage or cycles in the host country are different from those in the home country. Smaller appliances can be run with transformers, but these change only the voltage so appliances will not run well in the host country if the cycles are different.
