An relocation industry term for a sum of money given by an employer to their transferring employee to cover the employee’s increased tax liability incurred as a result of the employer’s reimbursement of relocation costs (said reimbursement is considered taxable income). This gross-up often also covers the tax-on-tax occurrence that arises due to the extra income that results from the gross-up itself.
