A hardship allowance is granted to assignees in a city or country the company has deemed a hardship location (see Hardship Location). Normally the allowance is a fixed percentage of base pay. It may be paid annually, periodically throughout the year or at the end of the assignment. This allowance may also be referred to as Hazard Pay.
