Housing Differential

The housing differential is an allowance paid to cover the difference in housing costs between the home and host countries. Housing differentials are calculated by deducting an average or actual housing cost of the assignee in the home country from the average or actual housing cost in the host country. Housing cost averages may be obtained by a company through surveys or from consultants. Such averages are normally based on family size and income level.
