The amount that the expatriate’s counterpart in the same location at the same salary level and family size customarily spends for goods and services in the base country. Based on an international consulting firm’s tables, the spendable income is utilized in the calculation of the goods and services differential and can be expected to change during the period of the expatriate assignment as base salary, family size or spending patterns change.
